Oh Texas, how I love thee...

...let me count the ways! I love that your groceries are tax-free! I love that you have Whataburger to eat! I love that you have big gas stations with delicious BBQ! I love that everything is just bigger and better here!

It's so good to be back home for the holidays this Christmas. As we drove into Texas we discussed some of the things that we love (and miss) about Texas. We love Mississippi, but it just doesn't compare to Texas! I have always teased my husband by saying, "You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can't take the Texas out of the girl!". It feels so good to be "HOME" for a whole week! We have places to go and people to see. We have this list of things that we "must do" when we come back. Some of those things include eating at the places we love like Freebirds and Panda Express. Those are places that Mississippi doesn't have. We miss them. There is just nothing like good food, friends, and family. I love it! Stay tuned for pictures of the trip!

Happy Travelling!

Wordless Wednesday - Monkey Mooning??

video

I realize this probably isn't the typical Wordless Wednesday, but this was a monkey at the zoo on Thanksgiving Day that absolutely did not like me. I was holding my son and moved to quickly. It started him and he began to interact with me. He turned around and "mooned" me numerous times. Our camera batteries were dead, so this was taken with my husband's cell phone. Not the best quality, but hopefully you can see what's going on well enough. I could have stood and egged him on all day! He was hilarious!

Our Thanksgiving Day

Since our families all live in Texas, it was just us four for Thanksgiving this year. I planned out a Thanksgiving meal for us and made plans to go to the zoo. Yes, the zoo was open on Thanksgiving day. It was free admission for the day! We had a lot of fun. I brined the turkey (It was just the breast) over night. I seasoned, prepped, and put it in the oven Thursday morning before we left. When we arrived home from the zoo at around 2:00 it was ready. I prepared all the side dishes and we had an excellent Thanksgiving meal.
Here are some pictures of the day:

Our camera batteries died even though they were fresh off the charger, so that was about all the pictures we got. My husband had to pull out his phone to take pictures the rest of the day. Sorry about the quality of the next few pictures. A phone just doesn't take great quality photos.

The set table....all except for the linens. I don't have any cloth ones, so we just pulled out the old trusty paper ones. They wouldn't have made such a pretty picture.

A Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

I know this post is a little late, but my batteries in my camera kept dying before I could get the pictures uploaded. I finally went and bought 2 sets of some new rechargeable batteries and removed the pictures.

We went to Cedar Hill Farm Pumpkin Patch for a field trip back on October 29th. The kids loved it. They had a corn maze, corn pit, hayride, petting zoo, pony rides, train, and an educational area where you could learn all about chickens. My children loved it. When I did laundry I found a few corn kernels in the bottom of the washer. I can blame the corn pit for those!

The corn maze was pretty much dried up and dying, but the kids still loved it.

Picking pumpkins from the patch.

Going for a ride on the train.

The corn pit. It was very dusty in there!

Just some pictures taken with the pumpkins and hay bales.

Skirt Re-Fashion

I had this skirt tucked away in a drawer, because it was stained up. Being white the stains were very hard to remove and it just got to where I didn't wear it anymore, because of the stains. I was at Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago and saw this material on the 2.00 rack and decided to grab a couple of yards and re-vamp this old skirt of mine.

First I measured and cut it off with my rotary cutter and mat.

I then measured the material, sewed it together, and sewed around the top twice to gather it.

I pinned the right sides together and loosened or tightened the gathered part as needed to make it fit the denim top.

I sewed it up, turned it right-side-out, and voila!

A total re-fashion of an old, stained up skirt!

Crochet Angel

Hello Everyone! I am sorry it has taken me so long to post. I started a part-time job and it has kept me really busy. Between homeschooling and working, I haven't had a lot of time for much of anything else. I have done a few projects lately though. I am intending to share them with you in the next couple of weeks.

I recently have been crocheting a angel tree topper and just finished stiffening it. Here is a picture:

It's my first time to work with this small of a yarn. It was very hard to keep my tension, so it isn't the most perfect crochet job, but it's the best I could do. I am hoping to make some smaller ones for ornaments. I hope I improve as I go.

Chocolate Pudding Cake

I get Kraft Food & Family magazine via e-mail and just recently received this recipe from them. It looked so good, I just had to try it out. Here are some pictures of the process.

Devil's Food cake mix, eggs, oil, and water (make the cake according to directions on the box).

All mixed together and poured into the greased pan.

Pudding mix (2-3.9 oz boxes) and 1/3 cup sugar.

Pudding mix, 1/3 cup sugar, 1-1/4 cup water, and 2 cups milk.

Mix the pudding mixture for 2 minutes.

Pour it directly on top of the cake batter.

YUM!

It's ready for the oven. Bake at 350 degrees for 55-60 minutes.

Let it cool for 20 minutes. The pudding sauce will thicken as it cools.
(WARNING: My pudding sauce leaked out of one side a little bit during the baking! You can see the mess on the foil in the picture. I am not sure why it happened or how to prevent it.)

Serve it up...

with a dollop of cool whip! Absolutely DELICIOUS!!

Happy Baking!

Another Tote Bag

Here is another tote bag I made over the weekend. Isn't it lovely? This is made out of some smaller pieces of material, so I had to get creative.

One side is blue and the other side is yellow. I made the handles with blue on the outside and the yellow on the inside.

What do you think? I have moved all my stuff into it. I am going to carry it around for a little while.

Matching Wallet

I have made this matching wallet to add to my 30+1 giveaway. This is my first time to make a wallet like this, so it isn't perfect, but it is still cute. This wallet is made out of the same material I used for the tote. If you want to win the 30+1 giveaway prize package, go here and follow the entry rules. I will try to add some more items in the days ahead!

The outside of the wallet. Don't ya just love the pearl button?

The inside. I put a different color material for the pockets. This could be yours (minus the money and cards, of course). Just click here to enter my 30+1 giveaway!

Thanks for visiting!

Black & White Tote Bag

This is what I have been up to lately, besides crocheting flowers, that is.
I have been working on this pretty tote bag! I made it yesterday afternoon. It is a 55% linen 45% rayon Robert Allen "Etched Aviary" material and makes a perfect tote. This is a new project for me, because I just made it as I saw it in my head. I am so used to following patterns, I wasn't sure how it would turn out. I don't even know if I made it in a traditional way or not. I do like how it turned out though.

I love the black and white! It is roughly 11x12 inches. It features a peacock on one side and a crane on the other. What do you think about this project? Would you call this tote a success?

I sure do!
