Sewing Station

Last night Coot and I moved my antique sewing machine cabinet to the living room so that I could have a work space for the Albion sew along.  I have been using Sparrow's homeschool desk and the kitchen table.  I move my sewing stuff onto the table while he is working and then move it back to his desk during meal times.  Needless to say, constantly moving it back and forth was getting to be a little annoying.  Today I finished setting up the work area Coot and I started last night.  I think I can handle having my own space.  Here is a couple of pictures:

It's not very big, but I like it!

I think it will work.  I will begin cutting out, overlocking, and stay-stitching my fabric tonight after I get home from work.  Tomorrow it's making the patch pockets and placing them.  I am excited to be getting to the sewing phase.  I despise cutting out the pattern and fabric.  I don't know why I don't like that part of sewing, but I don't.  I guess the cutting out part is just kind of boring.

Practice Albion & Fabric Choice

I have made a practice run through of the Albion Pattern.  It doesn't look too good, but it did give me an idea of how it would fit.  I decided to make the coat for my daughter.  She is steadily outgrowing hers and could use a new one.  I was originally going to make it for my husband but my sister-in-law asked me if I would like to go halves with her on a new, really nice, oiled leather jacket for my husband.  I agreed, so that threw him out as an option.  The next target was my daughter since I didn't need a new coat either.

Here are the pics of her trying on the "practice" coat:

Yup, her eyes are closed.  She doesn't look too thrilled about it either.  I tried to reassure her that this was just the practice coat, not the real thing she wouldn't have to wear out in public or anything. =)

Now for a picture of the fabric I decided to use.  I went with a purple, pink, and gray wool plaid and a light cotton for the lining.  I am still deciding if I want to add something between the layers to make it slightly warmer.  I think the wool by itself would be warm, though.  We'll see.

I think it will look lovely if I don't mess up during the cutting, or for that matter, the sewing process.  I do have some ideas for some alterations I am going to make since she is so incredibly skinny.  At last measurement (her birthday Aug. 2013) she was 5 foot 1 inch and 85 lbs.  Tall and skinny!  I mean, come on, she is only 11-years-old!  She is outgrowing everything as fast as I can purchase it!

If anyone else is participating in the sew-along and contest, I want to wish them/you all good luck!

Happy Sewing!

Albion Sew Along

My, my, my it's been a long time since I have written on my blog.  I am sorry for being MIA for SO long.

I am embarking on a new sewing adventure starting today.  I purchased a new Colette Pattern and am joining in on my very first sew-along and contest.  This pattern is actually part of a new line Sarai has started called Walden.  The name of the pattern is Albion.  It is a unisex duffle coat.  I am not sure how good of a job I will do, but I decided to give it a try.

I have pinned several images for inspiration on my Pinterest board.  I have also purchased all my fabric.  I still need to get a few notions for the toggles.  I am excited and nervous at the same time.

Here is a button/link that gives more information for anyone else interested in joining in.  I have also added the button to the side of my blog.
